One Bay BYOF
6 Easy steps to “BYOF”: All boat dimensions needed in these steps are highlighted and should be available from the boat manufacturer (try the website!)
1. Determine width of frame: ID + 1 tube diameter + 4” = total width of frame
Sum of the interior dimension (ID between tubes) plus diameter of one boat tube plus four inches (the total diameter of the frame aluminum). This places the frame just on the outside of the center line of tubes.
2. Determine length of frame: Add 2” for the aluminum in the cross bar to the length of each bay that you want in your frame, plus another 2” for the rear crossbar.
Length of frame cannot exceed the flat line or straight line of the boat by more than four inches.. Decide how many bays you would like, and how big each bay needs to be. Then add the space the pipe will take at 2” per crossbar (1 7/8” for exact measurement.) So, for example, do you have a cooler that you want to fit in the first or third bay? A dry box or rocket boxes? If so, what are the dimensions? Some standard dimensions that we use are 19” for a rocket box, or 22” for a foot bay where your kick bar will go.
3. Draw a diagram: Include all your measurements and parts
Corners are “L” fittings, “T” fittings for cross bars, don’t forget oar tower bases, oar towers, kick bar if desired, and any seat placements. See the fitting price list below for ideas about extra fittings.
4. Make a list of all the parts: Include total inches of pipe needed!
Price each part and come up with an approximate total for your bid. Don’t forget the oar locks or pins. We recommend a spare oar lock/pin for the repair kit.
